To the questions that reach the rectorate of the cathedral – especially through the guides of the Visitor Service – we sometimes answer in images. The subjects are varied and sometimes highlight unsuspected aspects of the cathedral…

There are several mutes in the cathedral. The most beautiful representation is found in a lancet in the upper choir: Saint Martin touches the tongue of a young girl, who regains the use of speech.

In the Middle Ages, many mental disorders – particularly those we would describe today as schizophrenic – were associated with diabolical possession, but this didn’t stop people of the time from paying sympathetic attention: how to “deliver” the patient, especially when he or she was worried about his or her situation, after a crisis.

Saint Chéron expels the devil from a “possessed” man.

The servant of the proconsul Tetradius, seriously agitated to the point of shackling his hands, is brought to Saint Martin, who is visiting the city of Trier.
