Opening of the Cathedral Treasury, Saturday September 21
Wed. 11 Sep. / ÉvènementsListed in inventories since 1322, the cathedral’s treasury is one of the most emblematic in France, displaying the finest pieces for the Glory of God.
Linked to religious and political history, the treasure has been enriched over the centuries, marked by donations, confiscations, destructions and new additions, making it an ensemble in perpetual evolution and transformation.
It contains more than 150 pieces or ensembles dedicated to the ornamentation and celebration of worship, as well as precious works such as goldsmith’s and silversmith’s objects, pieces linked to Marian statues, and ex-voto items, including some medieval armor. The centerpiece of this treasure is the Virgin’s veil, donated in 876 by Charles the Bald.
Undergoing renovation since the early 2000s, it will be reopened to the public on Saturday September 21.
