Conference "The organ, a sacred instrument?" organized by Les Amis de la cathédrale, Thursday, December 7, 2023

The association Les Amis de la cathédrale de Chartres offers a lecture on the theme of “The organ, a sacred instrument?“, by Jean Vandamme, former president of CASA (host communities at art sites), former head of CASA Notre-Dame, president of the Amis de la cathédrale de Lille.

“The organ manifests the genius or talent of the person who designed it, the “builder”, with its case and sculptures, its particular sound colors and its always singular sound balance. It is also linked to a civilization and culture, and brings us the expression of the era and country in which it was conceived. The result is an extreme diversity that can be discovered by listening to recordings made on instruments from different periods and countries.”

Jean Vandamme will present an anthology of the organ, with illustrations of organ cases and musical illustrations marked by audio sequences.

The lecture will take place on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 6:00 pm, at the Maison Saint-Yves (3 rue des Acacias, Chartres).
