Summer Evening Events
at Our Lady of Chartres Cathedral
On Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays from mid-June to August,
the Cathedral Remains Open Until 10 p.m...
Free admission
From June to August, visit the cathedral in the evening and enjoy it in a different way...
Starting at 7:30 p.m., the cathedral is open to all.
Starting at 9 p.m., the cathedral offers three original events:
A voice to remind us that a powerful faith shows up ra- diantly everywhere in the cathedral. A reader, alone at the main lectern, repeats the words of the prophets and the evangelists. One couldn’t imagine a simpler way to bring out sense and solemnity to this grand vessel.
Most texts will be read in French.
Discover a different stained-glass window every week. Program diffused through flyer distribution.
Learn about the history of the stained-glass windows with today’s techniques. Details appear successively and become more visible on a large screen: a city door, the curves of a cloud, the rung of a chair, or the seam of a pillow. Little by little, the scene comes together.
Eight centuries later, we are still fascinated by the cathedral and the intensity of its colors and the wealth of its decor.

The cathedral is a place for both silent contemplation as well as live music. Enjoy music from the 12th to the 21st centuries where evenings are accompanied by either musical instruments or a choir.
Visitors are welcome to enter and sit or walk with complete discretion. The artists find an appropriate place within the cathedral and often make meditative pauses. Far from a typical concert, they make the cathedral resonate in a different way.
